![]() ![]() There is no dating information in this serial number. For example, a Goldstar which is a '64 Strat copy will have a serial number that's a copy of a '64 Strat - beginning with L. If anyone has a more reliable information than this I would love to hear it.Įven on Tokais like the 1980s Goldstars (excellent Strats) you can't date them from the serial number. I have never managed to establish exactly when the modified shape became standard for UK Tokais, but all the information points towards the 1990s, possibly early '90s. Either Fender didn't have the same control of the UK market, or they couldn't be bothered, as we got Tokais with the Fender headstock throughout the 1980s. ![]() I assume it's the modified shape, which means it's not from the 1980s.ĭespite the confusing information on the (US based & owned) Tokai Registry, not all Tokais had the headstock shape changed around 1983 - the US market Tokais did because Fender managed to exert some sort of control on what exports were allowed to be sold in the US. The pics do what many pics do - they omit the edge of the headstock so it's difficult to see if it's the Fender shape or the later, modified shape. Such a pity the list owner rejected offers from a Europe based consortium of members to buy it out a few years ago. Yes I'm afraid the Tokai Forum is not what it once was, it seems to be slowly dying.
